Where Horses are Happiness
Welcome to Partridge Horse Hill – Pontypool, Ontario
A friendly equestrian farm in the heart of Pontypool, Ontario (Kawartha Lakes, right next to Durham Region).
We are the Natural Horsemanship Association (NHA)
Partridge Horse Hill is our beautiful farm home. All programs, lessons, camps, and events here are proudly run by the Natural Horsemanship Association, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making horse experiences open and welcoming to the whole community – especially youth, families, and people who might not otherwise get the chance.
Our mission: Promote natural horsemanship based on communication, trust, and positive reinforcement (yes, we have a cookie bin for the horses!). We focus on leadership over fear, horse care, farm life, safety, and well-being. Working with horses helps improve physical health (balance, strength, flexibility), mood, focus, concentration, and mental health.
We especially welcome people of all backgrounds, ages, abilities, colours, and identities – including 2SLGBTQ+. Everyone belongs here!
What We Offer
- Affordable paid programs (priced on the lower end to keep things accessible): riding lessons, summer/day camps, horse boarding, part-board, birthday parties, family/group events.
(Horse care is expensive – about $280/month per horse for hay, feed, hoof care, vet, etc. – so fees help cover basics, while much of the daily work is done by passionate volunteers.) - Free and low-cost community opportunities – because we want more people to discover the joy of horses:
- Ponies of Pontypool – free supervised evenings with ponies/horses (feeding, grooming, leading, short rides). Email us or check our Facebook/Instagram for dates!
- Moose Memorial – annual giveaway in March (free lessons or summer camp week). Apply by email.
- Volunteer program – help with daily horse care (feeding, turnout, training support) and learn skills. Many volunteers gain riding time, leadership roles (like leading games at camps), and even paid opportunities as coaches or chore staff as they grow.
- Community events – horse shows, Christmas concerts, open events to watch, learn, or help.
We have a small part-time team of coaches for riding programs and daily chores, but we rely heavily on volunteer hours (often 4 days a week for horse care tasks like manure cleanup, snow plowing, and more) to keep everything affordable and running.
Why We Do This
We’re rooted in the rural Pontypool community and committed to serving local people – especially kids and youth – by offering hands-on experiences that build life skills like responsibility, empathy, confidence, and leadership. Many of our programs lead to growth in the agricultural and equestrian world, from volunteering to potential jobs in coaching or farm work.
Horses teach us so much, and we want to share that with as many people as possible.
